Berbera
An old Gulf of Aden port with long empty beaches and Ottoman-era streets.
About
Berbera has been a trading port on the Gulf of Aden for centuries, and its old town keeps coral-stone buildings from Ottoman and colonial periods, now weathered and half-abandoned. The beaches east of town run for kilometres with almost nobody on them, and the reefs offshore are barely dived.
Highlights
- Old coral-stone quarter
- Empty Gulf of Aden beaches
- Fish market
- Unexplored offshore reefs
