Dakar
West Africa's cultural capital, on the westernmost point of the continent.
About
Dakar sits on a peninsula jutting into the Atlantic, and it has long been the cultural engine of francophone West Africa — the home of mbalax, of a serious contemporary art scene anchored by the Dak'Art biennale, and of the tailors and markets of Sandaga and HLM. The African Renaissance Monument looks out over the city, and Lac Rose and the surf breaks of Ngor are short trips out.
Highlights
- Museum of Black Civilisations
- Dak'Art biennale
- Île de Ngor and surfing
- Live mbalax at night
