Fogo
An active volcano you can climb, with a village living inside its crater.
About
Fogo is a single volcano rising nearly 2,830 metres from the sea, and inside its caldera sits Chã das Caldeiras, where families farm vines in black ash and make wine and coffee between eruptions — the most recent buried much of the village in 2014. The climb up Pico do Fogo starts before dawn and comes down in long scree-running strides.
