Fouta Djallon
Green highlands of waterfalls and plateaux — the water tower of West Africa.
About
The Fouta Djallon is a sandstone massif whose rains feed the Niger, Senegal and Gambia rivers, and it is the best walking country in the region: plateaux cut by gorges, villages of Fulani herders, and waterfalls like the Chutes de Kambadaga and the Voile de la Mariée near Pita. Days out here are done on foot with local guides between villages.
Highlights
- Village-to-village trekking
- Kambadaga and Ditinn falls
