Ilha de Moçambique

A coral-stone island city that was the capital of Portuguese East Africa.

About

Ilha de Moçambique is a small coral island joined to the mainland by a single-lane bridge, with a stone town of churches, a fortress and merchant houses at one end and a reed-built macuti town at the other. The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Baluarte inside the fort is among the oldest European buildings in the southern hemisphere, and the whole island is UNESCO-listed.
