In Koutammakou, the Batammariba build takienta — tower-houses of mud and wood with granaries on top, sleeping quarters inside the walls and livestock below, arranged across a landscape of fields and sacred sites. The buildings are renewed each year and the area is a UNESCO cultural landscape, visited with community guides who explain what each part of a house is for.
