Lomé runs along the Gulf of Guinea, its boulevard following the sand past the port, the independence monument and the huge Grand Marché where the "Nana Benz" cloth traders built their fortunes in wax print. The Akodessewa fetish market on the edge of town supplies traditional medicine across the region, and is visited with a guide who explains what is on the stalls.
