Lopé National Park
Where rainforest meets savanna, with mandrill hordes and rock art.
About
Lopé sits on the boundary between Congo Basin rainforest and relict savanna left from the last ice age, which is why the wildlife here is so varied — forest elephant and buffalo cross open grassland, and mandrill move in hordes that can number hundreds. The park is also a cultural landscape, with iron-age sites and petroglyphs along the Ogooué.
