Luxor holds the greatest concentration of ancient monuments anywhere in the world. On the east bank stand the temple complexes of Karnak and Luxor; on the west, the Valley of the Kings, where sixty-odd rock-cut tombs include Tutankhamun's, alongside the terraced mortuary temple of Hatshepsut. Balloons go up over the west bank at dawn, and feluccas work the river between them.
