Ngorongoro Crater

A collapsed volcano holding one of the densest concentrations of wildlife on earth.

About

Ngorongoro is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, a bowl roughly twenty kilometres across with walls six hundred metres high. Inside live an estimated 25,000 large animals — lion, elephant, buffalo, and one of the last places in Tanzania to reliably see black rhino — alongside Maasai herders who retain grazing rights. Because the crater floor is enclosed, game viewing here is unusually concentrated.
