Pendjari National Park
West Africa's strongest wildlife park, under the Atacora cliffs.
About
Pendjari forms part of the W-Arly-Pendjari complex and is the best place in West Africa to see elephant, buffalo, roan and West African lion, with cheetah also present. Sustained management has brought numbers back, and the tracks run beneath the Atacora escarpment between waterholes where the dry season concentrates everything.
Highlights
- West African lion
- Elephant at the waterholes
- Atacora escarpment
- Dry-season game drives

Where to stay in Pendjari National Park
Zuri has nothing to list here. Pendjari Safari Lodge, the park's only real lodge, no longer takes bookings and its website has lapsed, and as of 2026 the US and UK governments advise against travel to northern Benin because of armed groups operating across the Sahel border. African Parks continues to manage the park for conservation, but there is no reliable visitor product. Travellers who want West African savanna wildlife are generally pointed to Mole in Ghana instead.
