Sossusvlei
Rust-red dunes three hundred metres high, and a clay pan of dead camelthorn trees.
About
Sossusvlei sits in the Namib, the oldest desert on earth, where iron-rich sand has oxidised into dunes of deep orange and red. Some rise over three hundred metres, among the tallest anywhere. Nearby Deadvlei is a white clay pan studded with camelthorn trees that died some six hundred years ago and never rotted in the dry air — black skeletons against white clay and red sand.
