Tassili n'Ajjer
A sandstone plateau of rock forests and thousands of prehistoric paintings.
About
Tassili n'Ajjer is a vast eroded plateau in the Algerian Sahara where wind has carved sandstone into pillars and arches, and where rock art left over thousands of years shows cattle, giraffe and swimmers — evidence of a green Sahara long gone. Visits are made on foot and by camel with Tuareg guides from Djanet, camping among the rock formations.
