Etosha National Park

Wildlife gathers at floodlit waterholes around an enormous white salt pan.

About

Etosha is built around a salt pan so large it is visible from space — a dry, glaring expanse for most of the year, ringed by grassland and mopane. Because surface water is scarce, game viewing here works differently: you park at a waterhole and wait, and the animals come to you. Several rest camps have floodlit waterholes where black rhino, elephant and lion appear through the night.
