Apartheid Museum

The Apartheid Museum is a museum illustrating apartheid and the 20th-century history of South Africa. The museum, part of the Gold Reef City complex located in the south of Johannesburg, was opened in November 2001. It was established by an independent non-profit organisation, Akani Egoli, and built as an offshoot of the development of the Gold Reef City Casino. At least five times a year, events are held at the museum to celebrate the end of apartheid and the start of multiracial democracy for the people of South Africa. On entry, visitors are randomly classified as either "white" or "non-white", and are directed "to enter the museum through the designated entrance".
