One hour with a gorilla family

We started walking at eight in the morning and didn't find the family until almost noon. The forest is steep and wet, and I was very glad for the porter who helped me up the muddy slopes.

Then the tracker raised his hand, and there they were — a silverback eating leaves a few metres away, completely unbothered by us.

The hour went by in what felt like ten minutes. Nobody spoke. I've been on safari before, but nothing has come close to this.

Tip: hire a porter. It supports local families and you will need the help.
